The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Roman Vassilenko, convened with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Jorge Urbiola, to deliberate on forthcoming initiatives coinciding with the 15th anniversary of strategic cooperation between the two nations, MFA reported.
The bilateral discussions encompassed a spectrum of pertinent topics including the augmentation of the legal framework, scheduled high-level engagements, and an array of cultural and humanitarian endeavors slated for the commemorative year.
Both diplomats underscored the imperative to fortify trade and economic relations, identifying them as the cornerstone of bilateral ties. A significant stride in this trajectory is the imminent launch of several investment ventures in Kazakhstan with the involvement of prominent Spanish corporations.
Vassilenko accentuated the forthcoming significance of the intergovernmental Agreement on Air Services, anticipated to be ratified this year, heralding a pivotal advancement across the entirety of Kazakh-Spanish relations.
Conversely, Urbiola divulged forthcoming initiatives concerning sports and image projects aimed at fostering humanitarian bonds between Kazakhstan and Spain.
The discussions also lauded the positive momentum in educational and scientific exchanges. A highlight of the year entails a delegation comprising rectors from several Spanish universities planning a visit to Astana alongside the inauguration of a Spanish language center at a leading Kazakhstani university.
Concurrently, Vassilenko articulated concerns regarding the facilitation of the EU visa regime for Kazakhstani citizens. He emphasized that fostering dialogue and effectuating concrete measures in this realm would nurture conducive conditions for bolstering mutually advantageous collaboration across the entire spectrum of engagement.
Spain stands as a pivotal economic ally of Kazakhstan within the EU framework. As per Kazakh statistics, bilateral trade turnover culminated at $2bn by the conclusion of 2023, with exports totaling $1.5bn and imports at $500mn. Since 2005, Spanish investments in Kazakhstan have exceeded $300mn.
