Uzbekistan's PM congratulates Olzhas Bektenov on Prime Minister appointment
Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Abdulla Aripov engaged in a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenov on February 6. The conversation, took place on the auspicious occasion of Bektenov's confirmation as Kazakhstan's Prime Minister, governmental portal of Uzbekisan reported.
Prime Minister Aripov conveyed heartfelt congratulations to Prime Minister Bektenov on his new role, expressing optimism for the fruitful collaboration ahead. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to advancing the multifaceted bilateral relations that underpin the enduring partnership between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
During the dialogue, Prime Ministers Aripov and Bektenov emphasized their shared aspiration to address key priorities and objectives vital for the continued development of Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan strategic cooperation. They expressed confidence in the seamless implementation of crucial initiatives aimed at bolstering the comprehensive partnership and alliance between the two nations.
Prior to the telephone conversation, Prime Minister Aripov extended warm felicitations to his Kazakh counterpart through a congratulatory letter, reaffirming Uzbekistan's unwavering support and solidarity with Kazakhstan.
Becoming PM of Kazakhstan
Olzhas Bektenov has been appointed as the Prime Minister, leading the newly formed government on February 6. The decree formalizing his appointment was signed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Bektenov, a 43-year-old seasoned bureaucrat, emerged as the candidate for the prime ministerial position following a proposal by the ruling Amanat party. His extensive experience in public service includes a recent stint as the head of the presidential administration since March 2023. Prior to this, Bektenov served as the director of the anti-corruption agency for approximately one year, underscoring his commitment to upholding transparency and integrity in governance.
The confirmation of Bektenov's candidacy came during a session of the Mazhilis (lower house of parliament) on February 6, where he secured a decisive mandate with 69 deputies voting in favor and 7 abstentions. Following the vote, Bektenov expressed his gratitude for the support received and outlined his vision for driving economic development. He stressed the importance of implementing prompt and decisive measures to invigorate the nation's economy, echoing the directives outlined by the head of state.
