Uzbekistan has experienced a remarkable surge in the import of passenger cars from China, exceeding five times the previous figures by the end of 2023. This transformative trend is highlighted in the latest data released by the Statistics Agency, shedding light on the country's evolving automotive landscape.
According to the Statistics Agency, the total number of imported cars soared by 2.42 times during the year, surging from 30,250 to an impressive 73,200 units. Notably, the importation of cars extended to 31 countries, marking a slight decline from the previous count of 34 nations.
China emerged as the frontrunner in automobile imports, with a staggering 5.2-fold increase in imports compared to the preceding year. In 2023, a total of 58,000 Chinese cars made their way into the country, solidifying China's position as a dominant player in Uzbekistan's automotive market.
Other key players in import scene
Following China, South Korea secured the second spot, contributing approximately 11,500 imported cars to the Uzbek market, marking a commendable 22% annual growth. The United States claimed the third position with 2,200 units imported. Noteworthy contributors also include:
- Hong Kong: 454 units
- Japan: 419 units
- Germany: 228 units
- India: 65 units
- UAE: 64 units
- Great Britain: 49 units
- Other countries: 158 units
Domestic production trends
Uzbekistan's automotive industry reported impressive figures, with 118,093 cars produced in 2023, primarily dominated by the Cobalt model. Notable runners-up included Damas with 89,154 units and Gentra with 82,133 units. The production lineup also included 48,082 units of Tracker and 30,596 units of Chevrolet Onix, reflecting the industry's diverse manufacturing portfolio.
