The historical-ethnographic park “Boqiy Buhoro” ("Ethernal Bukhara") is set to be established in the ancient city of Bukhara to improve the standard of living, provide high-quality services, continue historical architectural traditions, and increase green spaces. This project was announced by the information service of the regional government.
Preserving History and Culture
The primary goal of this park is to preserve and promote the rich history and unique tangible and intangible cultural heritage of ancient Bukhara. The park will feature objects that blend traditional Bukhara architecture with modern urban planning styles. These include an ethnographic museum, historical neighborhoods typical for the Bukhara oasis, teahouses, restaurants serving national dishes, traditional drainage systems, craftsman’s stalls, and workshops for various crafts.
International Collaboration and Compliance
The establishment of the ethnographic park will involve a team of international and local experts. All work in this area will be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, adopted by the General Conference of UNESCO on November 16, 1972.
Restoration of Historical Monuments
In the 1920s, many historical monuments of Bukhara were destroyed as a result of the attack of the “Red Army” troops led by M. Frunze. The new ethnographic park will be a significant step towards the restoration of the ancient drainage systems, which are examples of this lost cultural wealth.
Environmental Considerations
The project also plans to expand the green spaces in the area of the park. This approach is crucial in ensuring the microclimate in this place and in the Bukhara oasis, creating a “green corridor” and mitigating threats such as desertification and land salinization.
The “Green Bukhara” Program
On the basis of this project, it is planned to build a magnificent park for residents and guests of Bukhara to walk in two-thirds of the planned area. The trees and greenery of the area previously established in accordance with the “Green Bukhara” program in the project area will be completely preserved and will be further enriched as a new garden landscape.
