Surkhandarya blogger Otabek Sattoriy has been released from prison by a court decision, the press service of the courts of the Kashkadarya region reports.
Court Proceedings and Verdict
On February 5, 2024, the Karshi District Court on criminal cases found Sattoriy guilty of committing crimes provided for defamation and extortion.
The decision of the inspection body of the criminal trial panel of the Supreme Court on February 2, 2024, changed the verdict of the Muzrabot district court on criminal cases dated May 10, 2021, the decision of the appellate instance of the criminal trial panel of the Samarkand regional court on July 15, 2021, and the ruling of the Supreme Court criminal trial panel of the cassation instance dated April 5, 2022.
Sattoriy, who was born in 1980 in the Surkhandarya region and engaged in blogging activities, had been sentenced to 6.5 years of imprisonment. His petition to the court was considered and satisfied.
Sentence and Penalty
As per the court’s decision, Sattoriy's remaining 2 years 11 months 25 days of imprisonment, were replaced by a penalty, of 20% of his salary to be charged to the state income.
