Uzbekistan and UAE explore collaborative opportunities in digital innovation
The Minister of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan, Sherzod Shermatov, held a key meeting with Abdulla Luta, Deputy Minister of Government Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), governmental portal of Uzbekistan reported on January 31.
The discussions centered around the achievements of notable initiatives such as the mGov Award and the "One Million Uzbek Developers" projects. Additionally, the parties explored avenues for expanding these projects and fostering joint implementations in the future.
The Uzbekistan delegation also provided insights into the country's commitment to nurturing a robust ecosystem for digital innovation. This included information about the initiatives promoting the "One Million Uzbek Developers" project, aimed at cultivating a skilled workforce in the IT sector.
In the spirit of bilateral cooperation, the discussion touched upon several crucial aspects. Proposals were exchanged on strategies for generating employment opportunities for young, qualified professionals, with a specific focus on fostering education in the realm of artificial intelligence. The importance of enhancing the export potential of local IT products featured prominently in the deliberations, aligning with Uzbekistan's vision for becoming a significant player in the global digital landscape.
Earlier Daryo reported that between January and September 2023, the trade volume surged to $475.7 mn, indicating a robust 40% surge when compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. The investments from the UAE into Uzbekistan have also witnessed substantial expansion, with the count of enterprises featuring UAE involvement experiencing a notable 2.5-fold increase over the last five years. The "Green" portfolio, encompassing investment initiatives in key sectors such as energy, agriculture, transportation, logistics, and tourism infrastructure, has now exceeded the $4 bn mark.
