The Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, Aidarbek Saparov, held discussions with Türkiye's Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Ebubekir Gizligider on January 25, to strengthen bilateral ties in agriculture. Saparov highlighted the significant growth in the trade turnover of agricultural products between the two nations, reaching $300mn over the past 11 months of 2023, representing a 19% increase, the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan reported.
During the meeting, Minister Saparov proposed further collaboration to expand the range of traded goods and enhance mutual trade. He emphasized Kazakhstan's interest in developing processing capabilities for agricultural products and acknowledged Türkiye's successes in this sector.
"The Ministry is prepared to assist Turkish investors and seeks partnerships from the Kazakh side," stated Minister Saparov.
He also underscored Kazakhstan's membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, providing additional avenues for exporting locally produced goods.
Deputy Minister Gizligider echoed support for the proposals, citing President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's perspective that "Kazakhstan is a country in which Türkiye should invest." He expressed interest in investing in seed production, greenhouse farming, and irrigation development.
In a bid to foster greater cooperation, Minister Saparov invited Deputy Minister Gizligider to participate in the meeting of agriculture ministers from the member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), scheduled for March 19–22, 2024, in Taraz.
Earlier discussions between a Turkish delegation, led by Deputy Minister Gizligider, and Kazakh officials focused on potential collaborations in seed production and irrigation systems. The Turkish delegation proposed hosting the 8th ECOSA Summit of Turkic-speaking states in Kazakhstan, and Minister Saparov assured active consideration, aligning it with the international exhibitions KazAgro/KazFarm.
