President Emomali Rahmon of the Republic of Tajikistan held a meeting with Khalifa Jassim Al-Kuwari, the Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), during his state visit to the State of Qatar in the city of Doha on January 21, presidential press service reported.
The focus of the meeting was on exploring opportunities for collaboration in utilizing Tajikistan's abundant hydropower potential for mutual benefit. President Rahmon highlighted the importance his country places on the development and expansion of relations with the State of Qatar, particularly in the areas of industry and energy.
President Rahmon informed Director General Al-Kuwari about Tajikistan's commitment to the "Green Economy Development Strategy for 2023-2037," aimed at fostering a sustainable and environmentally friendly economy. He emphasized that Tajikistan has the potential to generate 100% "green energy" through its vast hydropower resources.
Acknowledging the significant resources and opportunities in Tajikistan's hydropower industry, both sides discussed the possibility of Qatari contributions to essential projects in the field. To facilitate the implementation of priority projects in Tajikistan, the establishment of a "Joint Economic and Investment Fund" was proposed as a means to attract financing.
QFFD was introduced as a key player dedicated to promoting human development, poverty alleviation, strengthening health and education services, supporting economic development, and providing humanitarian aid. The QFFD functions as a linchpin, collaborating with various entities within Qatar and international partners to make the State of Qatar a leading actor in international development.
The meeting concluded with mutual confidence expressed by both sides that the proposed initiatives would significantly contribute to the expansion of trade and economic relations between Tajikistan and Qatar. The collaboration between Tajikistan and the Qatar Fund for Development holds the potential to harness clean energy sources and foster sustainable development, aligning with the broader goals of both nations.
