As part of the President of Uzbekistan’s initiative to ensure 100% treatment of patients with hepatitis C, supplies of vital medicines from Egypt will continue in 2024, Dunyo reports.
Agreement on Drug Supply
Uzbekistan and Egypt have reached an agreement on the supply of 800,000 units of the drugs Daclatasvir and Sofosbuvir, used in the treatment of hepatitis C, and the antiviral Entecavir. The total cost of these supplies is estimated to be $4.2mn by 2025.
Current Progress
To date, these drugs have been sent to Uzbekistan for a total amount of $696,000. This forms part of a larger effort to combat hepatitis C in the country, which has seen a high prevalence of the disease.
On November 12, the most recent shipment of the anti-hepatitis C drug Sofosbuvir-400mg was delivered to Uzbekistan. This drug, allocated by the Egyptian government as humanitarian aid, will be donated to patients at the Research Institute of Virology of the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan.
