Elyer Yunusmetov, an international MMA athlete, was shot dead on January 13 in Oskemen, Kazakhstan, as per Zakon.kz. The incident occurred near the entrance of a residence on Kazakhstan Street, where the lifeless body of the 34-year-old Yunusmetov was discovered.
An unknown assailant fired two shots at Yunusmetov, leading to his immediate death. The suspect, a 27-year-old man residing in the same city, was swiftly apprehended by the police after an hour. In the initial stages of the investigation, the perpetrator confessed to the crime, attributing it to an overpowering sense of jealousy fueled by suspicions regarding Yunusmetov's alleged romantic involvement with his 24-year-old wife.
"A criminal case has been registered regarding the murder of a man born in 1990. The suspect, born in 1997, was detained. An investigation is underway. Other information is not subject to disclosure," stated the East Kazakhstan Region Police Department.
Elyer Yunusmetov was a multifaceted athlete, holding titles such as international master of sports in zhekpe-zhek (MMA), master of sports in kickboxing, master of sports in Kudo, and achievements like being a World Cup winner and Eurasian champion in zhekpe-zhek. He also secured victory in the Grand Prix "Battle of Katun" in Russia.
