President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan expressed gratitude for the warm welcome received on Italian soil during talks with the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, Akorda reported. The leaders discussed the strong ties between the two nations, highlighting the deep-rooted political dialogue, close economic cooperation, and flourishing cultural and humanitarian connections.
President Tokayev emphasized Kazakhstan's pride in being Italy's main partner in Central Asia, citing the dynamic growth and vast potential for further development in economic collaboration. Italy stands out as a leading trading partner in Europe, with a trade turnover of approximately $15bn, and direct foreign investment from Italy to Kazakhstan reaching $7.3bn. Over 300 Italian companies, including major investors like ENI, SDF Group, PetroValves, Maire Tecnimont, IVECO, and Tenaris, operate successfully in Kazakhstan.
The president underscored the successful collaboration on the world stage within international organizations such as the UN, OSCE, Council of Europe, and OECD. Kazakhstan expressed readiness to strengthen cooperation on global security, regional stability, counter-terrorism efforts, and climate change initiatives.
President Tokayev welcomed the opening of the Institute of Italian Culture in Almaty, highlighting the significance of cultural diplomacy, educational partnerships, and tourism in fostering deeper connections between peoples and nations.
Chairperson Giorgia Meloni acknowledged the high level of Kazakh-Italian relations, expressing Italy's commitment to further developing contacts with Kazakhstan. The leaders focused on deepening cooperation across various sectors, including trade, economics, investment, energy, transport and logistics, agriculture, culture, humanitarian efforts, education, green energy, and air communications.
A Joint Statement was adopted following the meeting, and several important documents were signed, reflecting the commitment to expanding collaboration. These included agreements on the status of burial places of military personnel from the Second World War, cooperation between justice ministries, cultural understanding, educational cooperation, and agreements on investment funds and joint projects in manufacturing, energy, and logistics.
President Tokayev expressed confidence that the negotiations would mark a new stage in bilateral relations, providing an opportunity to explore promising areas of cooperation. The Kazakh and Italian leaders are optimistic about the continued growth and success of their partnership, solidifying the friendship between the two nations.
Earlier, Daryo reported that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan held discussions with Italian President Sergio Mattarella. The leaders convened at the Quirinal Palace in Rome to explore ways of strengthening the longstanding and mutually advantageous ties between their respective countries. The economic aspect of the Kazakh-Italian relationship took center stage during the talks. President Tokayev highlighted Italy's significant role as one of Kazakhstan's primary trading partners in Europe, with the bilateral trade volume exceeding $14.5bn. Foreseeing continued expansion, Tokayev expressed confidence that the trade turnover could reach $20bn in the near future.
