More than 62 tons of low-quality oil have been reportedly returned to Uzbekistan from the Hayraton port, as disclosed by Sputnik Afghanistan. The National Standards Authority of Afghanistan stated that the imported oil, after inspection, was found to be of poor quality and subsequently sent back.
This incident is not an isolated case, as earlier reports indicate that over 100 tons of substandard oil had been returned to Uzbekistan. Notably, this is not the first occurrence of low-quality oil being rejected by Afghanistan. In August 2023, the Afghan government returned 67 tankers of oil to Uzbekistan due to quality concerns.
Uzbekneftgaz Chairman, Bahodir Siddiqov, responded to these reports, asserting that the information had been misinterpreted. He claimed that the oil returned by Afghanistan was, in fact, of high quality, contrary to the reports suggesting otherwise.
Siddiqov clarified, "The news spread that Afghanistan returned Uzbek oil because it was of poor quality. This is false information because we did not send oil to Afghanistan."
He further added, "Some people are saying that we are bringing Afghanistan's gasoline back and selling low-quality gasoline at gas stations. This is also incorrect information. We have not taken the product back from Afghanistan anywhere; it is in its container. Take it to another place or sell it. This is a new product from the diesel GTL factory. Afghanistan does not have its standard. That's why they didn't understand it."
