Uzbekistan and Singapore further solidified their bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture during an online meeting held on January 15, the government portal of Uzbekistan reported. The meeting saw the participation of key figures including the Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, the governor of the Tashkent region, Zoir Mirzayev, and Charles Cheau, a representative of the leading agro-industrial corporation Wilmar International Company based in Singapore.
The primary focus of the discussions was the exploration of avenues to broaden the scope of mutual collaboration in agriculture and expedite the implementation of previously agreed-upon projects. Despite the notable progress in bilateral relations, the participants acknowledged the existence of untapped opportunities for further practical cooperation.
Founded on April 1, 1991, in Singapore, Wilmar International Company holds a prominent position in the Asian agro-industrial sector and boasts a substantial market capitalization on the Singapore Stock Exchange. With an integrated agribusiness model covering the entire agricultural value chain, Wilmar has become a key player in the region.
Minister Abdurakhmonov highlighted the establishment of a donor system with Singapore in the agricultural sector a few years ago. The meeting aimed to discuss active reforms slated for the future, the development of the agricultural value chain, and the transformation of the food system. Emphasizing the importance of this partnership, the minister underlined the need to enhance cooperation and implement progressive changes.
The discussion also delved into the prospects of elevating collaboration in the agrarian sector to new heights. Subsequently, a pivotal agreement was inked between the Ministry of Agriculture, the administration of the Tashkent region, and Wilmar International, signifying a commitment to advancing joint initiatives.
Earlier, Daryo reported that the Uzbekistan Industrial and Construction Bank (SQB) has engaged in a transformative partnership with the Management Development Institute of Singapore in Tashkent. The formalization of this strategic collaboration occurred through the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation, emphasizing education and the exchange of expertise between the two entities. This initiative is in line with the Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026 and the Strategy for Reforming the Banking System of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2020-2025, both approved by the country's president. These strategies highlight the significance of personnel recruitment, continuous professional development, and the training and retraining of specialists to address the evolving demands of the financial landscape.
