Citizens of Uzbekistan constitute the fifth largest foreign diaspora in South Korea. As of the end of 2023, 87,600 Uzbek citizens resided in this country, Yonhap reports. This marks a significant increase from the previous year when the Uzbek population in South Korea was reported to be 69,000.

Approximately a seventh of the Uzbek population in South Korea, amounting to 12,500 individuals, are currently pursuing their education in universities. This highlights the growing trend of Uzbeks seeking higher education opportunities in South Korea.

South Korea is home to a diverse range of foreign nationals. As of the end of 2023, the foreign population in South Korea stood at 2.5 mn. The majority of these were Chinese citizens, numbering 942,300. Vietnamese and Thai residents followed, with populations of 271,700 and 202,100, respectively.

The presence of Uzbeks in South Korea is part of a larger trend of increasing foreign residency in the country. According to the latest figures, there were 2,258,248 foreigners in South Korea as of November 1, 2022. This figure represents a 5.8% increase from the previous year.
