In his annual address to the parliament, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan declared 2023 a successful year for the republic, emphasizing the nation's achievements despite global political and climate challenges. Rahmon commended the collective efforts of the population, highlighting progress in all sectors, Sputnik Tajikistan reported.
The president reported significant economic growth, citing a remarkable 8.3% increase in the gross domestic product (GDP), reaching 130 bn somoni approximately $12bn. Budget revenues also exceeded expectations, reaching 102.5% during the period. In a commitment to fulfilling obligations, the state allocated 40 bn somoni, approximately $3.7bn in 2023, reflecting a notable increase.
Rahmon underscored the impressive long-term economic growth, noting a 7.5% development increase over the past seven years, with GDP soaring by 1.5 times. Despite challenges such as the global spread of the coronavirus, trade and regional conflicts, and disruptions to international economic and financial relations, Tajikistan's economy demonstrated resilience. The president highlighted the remarkable economic trajectory, rising from 37.2 billion somoni, over $3.4bn in 2017 to an impressive 112.7 billion somoni, approximately $10.4bn in 2023.
