Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Russian President Vladimir Putin recently held a bilateral meeting within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) informal summit in St. Petersburg, Presidential press service reported.
The meeting aimed at discussing and advancing the implementation of agreements reached during President Mirziyoyev's high-level visit to Russia on October 5-7. Special attention was given to the effective implementation of previously agreed-upon initiatives, emphasizing the need for close inter-departmental coordination and practical cooperation to ensure the success of joint projects.
The leaders highlighted the importance of maintaining the growth rate of trade between Uzbekistan and Russia and explored avenues for expanding bilateral trade. Close inter-departmental coordination was deemed essential, with practical cooperation extending to the regional level in both countries.
To sustain trade growth and advance promising collaboration projects, the significance of fostering tight inter-departmental coordination and practical cooperation, even at the regional level in both nations, was emphasized. Additionally, the leaders exchanged perspectives on the regional agenda. Following a bilateral meeting with the Russian President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev concluded his practical visit by departing for Tashkent from Pulkovo International Airport.
Russia has set a goal to increase its trade turnover with Uzbekistan by over two-fold by 2030, as indicated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov. During the initial nine months of this year, there was a substantial 11.5% rise in the volume of mutual trade. Manturov, addressing a session of the intergovernmental Russian-Uzbek Commission on economic cooperation, emphasized the remarkable performance in 2022, with trade reaching 785bn rubles, equivalent to $8.3bn.
During a recent session of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan in Moscow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Denis Manturov, affirmed Russia's dedication to enhancing industrial connections with Uzbekistan. Manturov emphasized Russia's pivotal role as a major investor in Uzbekistan's economy, noting that Russian companies have contributed investments exceeding 1.2 trillion rubles, equivalent to about $13.37 bn.
Earlier Daryo reported that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan participated in an informal meeting with leaders of CIS member states in St. Petersburg on December 26. The gathering aimed to assess the notable achievements in multilateral cooperation throughout 2023 and discuss the priority tasks for the upcoming year. Deliberations within the CIS framework focused on examining opportunities to enhance multilateral relations and tackle significant regional issues.
