In a step towards fostering international collaboration in the realm of education, Komiljon Karimov, the First Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovations of Uzbekistan, held a crucial meeting with Ogasahara Kenji, the Director of Central Asia and the Caucasus Division of East and Central Asia and the Caucasus Department of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovations of Uzbekistan reported. The focus of the discussions was the exploration of possibilities for joint efforts in the field of mechanical engineering.
The Japanese delegation presented a comprehensive proposal for a long-term project in mechanical engineering, outlining its potential impact and contributions. The dialogue aimed at evaluating the feasibility and mutual benefits of this initiative, setting the stage for a potential collaboration between the two nations in the crucial domain of engineering education.
During the deliberations, Karimov emphasized the growing strength of relations between Uzbekistan and Japan in the sphere of higher education. He highlighted key areas of cooperation, including the expansion and development of partnerships between higher education institutions, the training of specialists across various sectors of the Uzbek economy, and the broadening of economic ties between the two nations. Additionally, the strengthening of friendly relations under the Japan Development Scholarship (JDS) project was acknowledged as a vital component of the bilateral engagement.
In a forward-looking gesture, both parties reached a consensus on fostering effective bilateral cooperation. This collaboration is expected to manifest through the implementation of new educational programs and grant initiatives. The support from the Japanese government will be instrumental in these efforts, particularly in the fields of healthcare, engineering, information technology, and other critical areas that are integral to the progress of both nations.

Uzbekistan and Japan Relationship
Recent years have witnessed the relations between the two countries reaching new heights, characterized by a high degree of trust and mutual understanding. This has allowed the launch of new mechanisms of bilateral cooperation and the establishment of close ties in various sectors, including politics, investment, trade, finance, industry, healthcare, education, and innovation.
Mutual readiness to expand constructive dialogue has been expressed in areas such as politics, investment, trade, finance, industry, healthcare, education, and innovation. An important mechanism for the development of bilateral relations is cooperation within the framework of the "Central Asia+Japan" Dialogue, initiated by Uzbekistan. Committees on economic cooperation between Japan and Uzbekistan, formed in 1994, have played a major role in the development of trade and economic relations.
In August 2008, the Intergovernmental Agreement on liberalization, mutual protection, and encouragement of investments was signed, entering into force in September 2009. Since 1999, regional offices of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), as well as the Uzbekistan–Japan Center, have been operating in Uzbekistan.
