In Kazakhstan, a total of 12 universities have been recognized in the recently released QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2024 by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan reported. The rankings highlight the commitment and efforts of these institutions in the realms of social and environmental sustainability.
Topping the charts among Kazakhstani universities is the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, based in Almaty, securing an impressive 447th place globally in the QS World University Rankings. This accomplishment places the institution at the forefront of sustainable practices and academic excellence.
The Gumilyov Eurasian National University follows closely as the second-highest-ranked Kazakhstani university, achieving a commendable 676th place in the global sustainability rankings. Notably, several other institutions from Kazakhstan have also secured positions within the top 1000 universities globally for sustainability.
Satbayev University, Auezov South Kazakhstan University, and the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University have all earned places within the top 1000, showcasing their dedication to sustainable development in both social and environmental domains.
Further contributing to Kazakhstan's strong presence in the QS Sustainability Rankings are the Saken Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical University, Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University, D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University, Karaganda State Technical University, Kazakh-British Technical University, and Narxoz University.
Sergei Khristolyubov, QS regional director, emphasized the international recognition that comes with the inclusion of 12 Kazakhstani universities in the QS Sustainability Rankings. He stated that this achievement underscores Kazakhstan's commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on a global scale.
The QS Sustainability Rankings evaluate universities based on their dedication to achieving the United Nations' sustainable development goals. In this year's assessment, a total of 1,397 institutions from 95 countries and territories were evaluated, showcasing the global scale and significance of the rankings.

The Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers leads the way for Uzbekistan, securing the 701st place globally. Following closely is the Tashkent State Technical University named after Islam Karimov, which claimed the 1101st position. The National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek has also made a notable impact, securing the 1201st place in the rankings.
