As part of a working visit to the United Arab Emirates, President Sadyr Japarov of the Kyrgyz Republic oversaw the signing of a significant trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Dubai, the president’s press service reported. The agreement, inked between the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company Masdar, and Électricité de France (EDF), aims to bolster clean energy initiatives in Kyrgyzstan.
The signing ceremony, attended by the presence of President Japarov, marked a crucial step towards fostering sustainable energy development in Kyrgyzstan. Following the formalities, negotiations ensued between the representatives of the Kyrgyz government and the energy companies involved.
President Japarov expressed his satisfaction with the signed document, asserting his confidence in the swift commencement of its practical implementation. He assured that Kyrgyzstan is committed to providing all necessary resources to ensure the successful realization of the conditions outlined in the Memorandum.
During the discussions, President Japarov urged a focus on harnessing Kyrgyzstan's vast hydropower potential, estimated at around 142.5bn kWh annually. Currently, only 13% of this potential is being utilized. He underscored Kyrgyzstan's dedication to developing a green economy and emphasized the importance of sustainable practices.
Masdar, a key player in renewable energy, affirmed the significance of the project outlined in the Memorandum. The project involves the construction of a solar power plant in the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan. Masdar representatives pledged to leverage their extensive experience in the renewable energy sector to support Kyrgyzstan in achieving its clean energy goals.
In the course of the meeting, company leaders from Masdar and EDF expressed their readiness to broaden cooperation and explore additional promising projects with Kyrgyzstan. The collaborative efforts are expected to contribute significantly to Kyrgyzstan's clean energy objectives, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainable development.
Earlier, Daryo reported about the meeting between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan and Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, the Minister of Investment and CEO of the "ADQ" holding. The gathering included prominent figures from leading UAE companies, such as Jasim Husain Thabet, the leader of "TAQA," and Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, the head of "Masdar." The discussions during the meeting were pivotal, centering on the enhancement of trade, economic, and investment collaboration. The primary focus was on developing strategies to support and advance joint projects aligning with the priorities of both nations.
