The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, underscored the crucial importance of advancing practical cooperation with Kazakhstan during a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Alikhan Smailov. The meeting took place as part of the ongoing summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization in Tashkent.
Prime Minister Smailov conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan to President Mirziyoyev at the outset of their meeting. The two leaders are in Uzbekistan to participate in the summit and discuss matters of mutual interest.
President Mirziyoyev expressed his satisfaction with the steady development of strategic partnership and alliance relations between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The meeting emphasized the need for the full implementation of agreements previously reached at the highest levels of government. Key areas of focus include the promotion of trade, enhancement of industrial cooperation, and the development of logistics projects to strengthen economic ties between the two nations.
A significant portion of the discussion centered around the effective functioning of the joint intergovernmental commission, highlighting its role in ensuring the successful realization of bilateral agreements. The leaders acknowledged the importance of sustaining the momentum of the commission's work to achieve tangible results in areas of common interest.
Strengthening trade ties, promoting industrial partnerships, and advancing key logistical initiatives were identified as essential components of the strategic relationship between the two Central Asian nations.
As highlighted by Alikhan Smailov, the diligent oversight of the implementation of high-level agreements lies in the hands of the governments of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan. A focal point in this endeavor is the establishment of a robust and enduring economic foundation to foster bilateral collaboration.
“Uzbekistan is one of the largest trading partners of Kazakhstan. Our countries account for about 70% of all trade in Central Asia. At the end of last year, trade turnover increased by 30% and reached $5bn for the first time. We are actively working to bring mutual trade to $10bn,” the Prime Minister noted.
As the summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization continues, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are expected to engage in further discussions aimed at deepening cooperation and exploring new avenues for joint development.
