In Khorezm, the head of a family orphanage compelled three underage individuals to engage in sexual acts with officials from the regional justice department and district emergency department over a period of 10 months. On November 3, the verdict for this criminal case was announced in the appellate division of the Tashkent city court on criminal matters, as reported by Abdurahman Tashanov, Chairman of the Human Rights "Ezgulik" Society.
Abdurahman Tashanov informed that the perpetrators from Khorezm, who committed pedophilic acts, were apprehended in the courtroom.
Oybek Masharipov, the former head of the Khorezm region Justice Department, received a 3-year prison sentence, while Anvar Kuryazov, the former head of the Yangiariq district, was sentenced to 2 years.
The Supreme Court's information service provided details on the situation. It stated that the judgment from the Tashkent city court's appellate division dated November 3, 2023, and the judgment from the Khiva district court dated September 6, 2022, relating to A.M. and A.Q., were annulled.
The defendants A.M. and A.Q. were found guilty under Article 128 (engaging in sexual intercourse with a person under the age of sixteen) and Article 128-1 of the previous version of the Criminal Code (providing material valuables to a person aged between sixteen and eighteen or engaging in sexual activity by enticing them with a financial interest). They were each sentenced to 3 years in prison under Article 59 of the Criminal Code, which stipulates a punishment for committing multiple crimes.
Consequently, the preventive measure of "bail" previously applied to the defendants was revoked, and A.M. and A.Q. were taken into custody during the courtroom proceedings.
Case of Sexual Abuse of Orphanage Girls in Khorezm:
The anti-violence initiative "Nemolchi.uz" reported that three children from an orphanage were subjected to sexual abuse by the head of the regional justice department and the head of the district emergency department for a period of 10 months in the Khorezm region. According to the judgment rendered by the Khiva District Court on September 6, 2022, the orphanage director received a 5-year and 6-month prison sentence. The two individuals responsible for engaging in sexual activity with young children received 1.5 years of imprisonment.
The convicted individuals, A.M. and A.K., were handed lenient sentences. On March 29, a protest was filed with the Supreme Court's trial panel on criminal matters. On April 6, the case was reviewed by the Supreme Court, and the judgment against A.M. and the portion related to A.K. was annulled and sent to the Tashkent City Court for reconsideration in the appellate division.
In July, the trial of the criminal case involving the sexual abuse of orphanage girls in Khorezm was adjourned for a month.
During the appellate division's court session, the prosecutor made a request to open a new criminal case against the defendants and charge other individuals. The prosecutor sought a decision to forward the case documents to the prosecutor who approved the indictment.
The appellate division's trial panel granted the prosecutor's request, and the defendants A.M. and A.K. were referred to the deputy prosecutor of the Khorezm region. The investigation of the criminal case was suspended for a month.
This criminal case was heard in a closed courtroom session.
