Iranian advisor urges non-aggression pact within SCO for enhanced regional security

Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, who serves as an adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader, has made a significant proposal, urging member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to prioritize the establishment of common security measures and enduring peace within the framework of the SCO agreement.

During his recent visit to China, he advocated for the formulation of a comprehensive cooperation and non-aggression pact among SCO member states, signaling the importance of fostering a climate of trust and cooperation within the organization.

Safavi also underscored the significance of promoting a mutual understanding between the Armed Forces of China and Iran with regard to various threats and shared interests. This proposition aligns with the broader objective of enhancing regional security and stability, which is central to the SCO's mission.

Notably, Iran officially became a full-fledged member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization at the conclusion of an online meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State held on July 4, 2023. During the SCO summit, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi voiced another important proposal by calling for the international community to reconsider the role of the U.S. dollar as the dominant global currency.
