During the first transport forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Uzbekistan's Minister of Transport, Ilhom Mahkamov, announced the commencement date for the construction of the Chinese-Kyrgyz-Uzbekistan railway. This significant transportation project is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and trade ties.
Minister Mahkamov revealed that the groundwork for seamless vehicle movement between China and Uzbekistan through Kyrgyzstan has been laid.
"Our main effort is a railway construction project in Kyrgyzstan. In this regard, three countries, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, have jointly developed a feasibility study. Today, we are in negotiations with various stakeholders to carry out this project, and we aim to begin construction work next year," he stated.
The project has seen collaborative efforts between the three countries involved, and routes and construction plans have been meticulously discussed and agreed upon. The project has gained the support of various stakeholders, including the Chinese Embassy in Uzbekistan.
In fact, the Chinese Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Yui Jun, emphasized the utmost importance of this project, underlining China's commitment to its successful implementation. He also revealed that significant progress is underway as both parties are actively negotiating the next steps.
The idea of a Chinese-Kyrgyz-Uzbekistan railway has been in the works for several years. In 2018, reports suggested that the three countries were preparing to undertake this ambitious project. The leaders of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have shown a strong commitment to enhancing regional transportation infrastructure.
This railway project is expected to provide a major boost to trade and connectivity in the region, enabling goods to flow more efficiently between China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. It will also facilitate the movement of people and promote economic cooperation among these nations, further strengthening their ties within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
