President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan is scheduled to embark on a working visit to Astana, Kazakhstan, from November 2-3. The visit comes as an invitation from President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev. It aims to facilitate the participation of President Mirziyoyev in the Council of Heads of State meeting of the Organization of Turkic States.
The forthcoming summit will address various aspects of enhancing multilateral cooperation within the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) framework. The agenda will primarily focus on trade, economic, investment, transport and communication, environmental, cultural, humanitarian, and other spheres.
One significant development expected from the summit is the approval of a joint civil protection mechanism.This mechanism aims to establish a collaborative capacity among member states to respond to natural disasters and address urgent needs during emergencies within their territories.
Uzbekistan currently holds the chairmanship of the Organization of Turkic States. Following the conclusion of the meeting, the chairmanship will be transferred to Kazakhstan.
The Organization of Turkic States consists of member countries: Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkey. Hungary and Turkmenistan serve as observers within the organization.
