UNWTO International Academy of Tourism was inaugurated during the 25th session of the UN General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization held in Samarkand on October 20.
The event was graced by the presence of Aziz Abdukhakimov, the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of Uzbekistan, Zurab Pololikashvili, the Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), ministers, and delegation heads from UNWTO member countries, as well as representatives from the media and various stakeholders.
The Academy's curriculum draws upon the expertise of Swiss hospitality schools, and foreign consultants will lead the training. Graduates of the Academy will receive certificates recognized by partner educational institutions involved in the program. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to gain practical experience through internships with private sector partner companies after completing each module.
The UNWTO's role in establishing the Academy encompasses constructing a training model based on global best practices, adapting training programs to local contexts, training mentors via Train-the-Trainer (ToT) programs, aiding institutional development, assessing student performance, offering consulting services to enhance educational quality, and ensuring international recognition and certification of the programs.
