The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan reports that it has held a videoconference with its counterparts from Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Turkey on the creation of an international transport corridor from China to Europe. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the railway industry of these countries.
The sides discussed important issues aimed at speeding up the processes of signing an agreement on the creation of an international transport corridor China-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Turkey-Europe.
Experts told Daryo that Ashgabat and Tashkent are discussing ways to create favourable conditions for cargo traffic through the Caspian port of Turkmenbashi. The route could be used as part of a transnational China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey-Europe route.
Last year, the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Turkey railway was inaugurated with a total length of more than 4,500km. This corridor has become Uzbekistan's shortest and most convenient way for export-import operations with Turkey.
The two countries are also working together to implement the Ashgabat Agreement signed in 2011 to create an international transport corridor Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman.
