    Uzbekistan-Russia meeting: 70% boost in trade, 20% rise in Russian tourists

    Following extensive talks, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Russia Vladimir Putin held a joint press briefing to share the outcomes of their discussions. The two leaders expressed their contentment with the productive negotiations and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership between their nations.

    Both leaders underscored their commitment to further enhancing the cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia and taking it to new heights. President Mirziyoyev highlighted the substantial improvements in the quality and quantity of trade, economic, and investment relations between the two countries. In particular, he noted that a significant shift had occurred, with 70% of bilateral trade turnover now comprising high-value-added products, as opposed to raw materials.

    In the investment realm, President Mirziyoyev acknowledged the surge in innovative projects spanning the light and chemical industries, automotive and mechanical engineering, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals.

    The issue of ensuring social protections for Uzbek citizens working in Russia was given special attention during the discussions, indicating a commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of migrant workers.

    Additionally, the growing appeal of Uzbekistan as a tourist destination for Russian travelers was highlighted. The leaders reported a 20% increase in Russian tourists visiting Uzbekistan since the beginning of the year, reflecting the strengthening of cultural and people-to-people ties.

    Furthermore, both countries agreed to organize mutual Days of Culture, Art, and Literature in 2024-2025, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchanges and cooperation in the fields of education and medicine.

    The presidents stressed their shared commitment to addressing traditional and emerging challenges and threats, with a particular focus on combating terrorism, extremism, organized crime, and drug trafficking.

    In conclusion, both parties expressed their confidence that the agreements reached and documents signed during these negotiations would further solidify the strategic partnership and strengthen the friendly bonds between the peoples of Uzbekistan and Russia. The fruitful talks have laid the foundation for a promising future of cooperation and collaboration between the two nations.
