In a significant breakthrough, authorities have arrested Duane "Keffe D" Davis, one of the last surviving witnesses to the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur. The arrest comes after 27 years of frustration for investigators and public fascination surrounding the unsolved case of the iconic hip-hop artist's murder on the Las Vegas Strip.
Officials with direct knowledge of the arrest confirmed that Davis was taken into custody early Friday morning on suspicion of murder. An expected indictment is anticipated later today, although the officials requested anonymity at this stage.
At present, it remains unclear whether Davis has legal representation available to provide comment on his behalf. Despite multiple attempts to reach him via phone and text messages over the past two months, Davis has not responded to inquiries from The Associated Press regarding the case or his willingness to provide an interview.
During a search warrant executed at his wife's residence in the Las Vegas suburb of Henderson, authorities were specifically seeking items related to the murder of Tupac Shakur. The warrant resulted in the seizure of various pieces of evidence, including multiple computers, a cellphone, a hard drive, a Vibe magazine featuring Shakur, 40-caliber bullets, two containers of photographs, and a copy of Davis' memoir.
