Kyrgyz wrestler Erlan Sherov clinched the gold medal at the Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, marking a historic achievement for Kyrgyzstan in judo. The official tournament website reported this outstanding victory.
Competing in the 90-kilogram weight category, Sherov secured the victory in the final against Uzbek athlete Davlat Bobonov. Sherov had previously defeated opponents from the People's Republic of China, Lebanon, and the United Arab Emirates on his way to the top.
Erlan Sherov's success makes him the first judoka in the history of the Kyrgyz Republic to claim gold at the Asian Games. His achievement also marked the first medal for Kyrgyzstan in these prestigious competitions.
This tournament, featuring over 12,000 athletes from 45 Asian countries, includes competitions in 61 sports disciplines (40 different sports). Kyrgyzstan is represented by a team of 160 athletes, competing for medals in 23 sports.
Among the Central Asian nations, Uzbekistan's national team is currently performing exceptionally well, securing the fourth position in the overall medal standings with a total of 14 medals, including 4 gold, 4 silver, and 6 bronze.
Tajikistan, with two medals (one gold and one bronze), holds the 10th position. Kazakhstan follows closely, ranking 15th with a total of 5 medals, including one silver and four bronze.
