The EcoJaratman Toktogul festival recently took place in the Toktogul district of the Jalal-Abad region in Kyrgyzstan, as reported by the UNDP Office in Kyrgyzstan.
With over 200 participants convening in the Cholpon-Ata village of Toktogul district, the primary objective was to collaboratively devise strategies for the development of Toktogul district, focusing on ecotourism prospects and fostering creative clusters.
The inaugural day of the festival was dedicated to deliberating mechanisms to enhance Toktogul district's tourism potential. A significant emphasis was placed on fostering partnerships among government bodies, local administrations, and tour operators to create and execute innovative approaches for attracting investments into the region's tourism infrastructure.
Tour operators were introduced to novel tourist routes within specially protected natural areas such as Alatai, Kan-Achuu, and Saimaluu-Tash. Developed with support from UNDP, these 15 tourist routes will serve as the cornerstone for developing the region's tourism capacity.
A session also delved into the development of creative clusters and their influence on the local community. Speakers shared insights from their experiences in establishing creative communities and transforming areas into tourist destinations in other parts of the country. The "Women's Peace Bank," a partner of the event, presented interim results from the UNDP project called "Women's Creative Lab," which has the potential to invigorate the creative cluster in Toktogul.
The festival encompassed a fair showcasing locally crafted goods, captivating creative performances, and an enlightening Birdwatching demonstration tour.
UNDP highlighted that the festival served as a platform for collective efforts to advance local tourism products and services, bolster the region's tourism infrastructure, support the financial sustainability of protected areas, and thereby provide comprehensive backing for biodiversity conservation and local development.
