Nikolay Dobrovlanov, a celebrated poet and songwriter, passed away aged 95. He wrote some of his most popular songs with his wife, composer Alexandra Pakhmutova.
Dobrovlanov was born on November 22, 1928, and graduated from the Nemirovich-Danchenko School-Studio at the USSR MKHAT in 1950. He was admitted to the Union of Writers of the USSR in 1970.
Dobrovlanov collaborated with his wife, composer Alexandra Pakhmutova, to create some of his most beloved songs. The duo produced many hits, including "The main thing, guys, the heart not to age!", "You know what kind of guy he was!", "Coward does not play hockey," "Tenderness," "Melody," "Goodbye, Moscow" (performed at the closing ceremony of the 1980 Olympics), "Hope," "How young we were," "Youth Team of ours," "I can not do otherwise," and more.
Performers counting Anna Herman, Lyudmila Zykina, Muslim Magomayev, Sofia Rotaru, Nikolay Baskov, Editha Pieha, Tamara Gverdziteli, Alexander Gradsky, have performed Dobrovlanov's songs.
Dobrovlanov was recognized with numerous awards, orders, and medals throughout his career.
