Uzbekistan's government has taken another step towards protecting maternal and child healthcare and strengthening the population's reproductive health.
Under the presidential decree, the importation of high-tech medical equipment, components, reagents, necessary materials, medicines, and special food products for children will be exempt from customs duties until 2026.
The Ministry of Health and the "Sog‘lom Avlod Uchun" ("For Healthy Generation") charitable foundation will be responsible for importing these essential items not produced in Uzbekistan.
Special food products for children with phenylketonuria will also be exempt from customs duties.
The government will also establish the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Maternal and Child Health and 14 regional branches of the center from October 1, 2023.
These centers will offer specialized and high-tech diagnostic and treatment practices for screening pregnant women and newborns, as well as provide obstetric-gynecological medical-genetic consulting services.
Besides, the government intends to increase the number of maternity beds to 4,321 between 2023 and 2027, and the program of measures for further development of the population's maternal and child health services and reproductive health will be digitalized and practically implemented.
