Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican candidate in the presidential race, has expressed his desire to have Elon Musk as an adviser if he were to assume the presidency, The Guardian reports.
During a campaign event in Newton, Iowa, Ramaswamy was asked about his preferred advisers in the event of his potential presidency. In response, he emphasized the importance of fresh perspectives and individuals from outside the government. Specifically mentioning Elon Musk, Ramaswamy referred to Musk's decision to lay off 75% of Twitter's employees, which reportedly led to increased effectiveness.
In an earlier interview with Fox News, Ramaswamy likened Musk's approach at Twitter to his own vision for the administrative state. He highlighted the need to remove inefficiencies and enhance the intended outcomes, drawing parallels between Musk's actions and his own proposed strategy. Ramaswamy had also previously indicated his intention to release "state action files" from the federal government, similar to Musk's move at Twitter.
Musk has shown support for Ramaswamy's campaign, considering him a promising candidate. Ramaswamy's tweets reaffirming his campaign values, such as belief in God, acknowledgment of two genders, the role of fossil fuels in human flourishing, and his stance on reverse racism, garnered Musk's acknowledgment of Ramaswamy's clear articulation of his beliefs.
Despite positioning himself as an "outsider" critical of his opponents' affiliations with GOP donors, a Guardian investigation uncovered Ramaswamy's significant ties to influential figures across the political spectrum, including rightwing donor Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPal. Ramaswamy's connections also extend to figures like Leonard Leo, a prominent rightwing activist under investigation in Washington DC for his efforts to influence appointments to federal courts, including the Supreme Court.
Further investigations by ProPublica and Documented have revealed Ramaswamy's participation in events organized by Teneo, a group chaired by Leo that aims to counter perceived liberal dominance in American society.
Recently, Ramaswamy's campaign reported raising $450,000 shortly after the GOP primary debate. As he continues his campaign, Ramaswamy's alignment with figures like Musk and his connections to various political influencers remain under scrutiny.
