"The Supreme Court of Uzbekistan has rehabilitated 240 individuals who were repressed during the Soviet era. The court's Judicial Collegium reviewed five relevant criminal cases yesterday.
This entailed systematic efforts to restore historical justice, identify compatriots unjustly accused during the authoritarian regime, whose properties were confiscated, exiled, and persecuted.
In the years 1929-1931, in the territories of present-day Karakalpakstan, Surkhandarya, Navoi, Samarkand, and Kashkadarya regions, 240 citizens were accused of participating in the Basmachi movement, forming armed bands, and engaging in actions aimed at armed uprising or counterrevolutionary activities against the Soviet government.
The individuals were acquitted based on Article 83 (grounds for rehabilitation) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
