The Protocol outlining amendments to the Agreement on the mutual arrival and departure of citizens between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic has come into effect. The Protocol, which was signed on January 27, 2023, in Bishkek, entered into force on August 25, 2023, Republic of Uzbekistan government portal reported.
This development marks a noteworthy milestone in the dynamic relationship between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, streamlining entry and exit procedures for their citizens. The practical utilization of identification ID cards for various purposes, such as entering, exiting, transiting, moving, and staying within each other's territories, will come into effect from September 1, 2023, at 00:00.
The crux of these amendments is the introduction of a simplified and unified procedure for citizens of both nations to cross their shared state border. A vital aspect of these changes is that citizens of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan will now be able to enter, move, and stay within each other's territories for a period of up to 60 days using their identification ID cards. This streamlined process reflects a concerted effort to enhance cross-border travel convenience and deepen people-to-people connections.
Furthermore, the amendments specify that citizens of Uzbekistan will be able to enter, exit, and transit the Kyrgyz Republic using a biometric passport for international travel to other countries. This provision aligns with the broader efforts to facilitate international travel while maintaining secure identity verification procedures.
The significance of these enhanced cross-border travel arrangements cannot be overstated. By simplifying and harmonizing entry and exit procedures, both Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are not only fostering greater ease of movement for their citizens but also sending a powerful signal of cooperation and partnership. These measures are expected to not only boost tourism and trade but also promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the two nations.
As the Protocol comes into effect, it underlines the commitment of both governments to fostering closer ties and removing barriers to interaction. The practical implementation of these amendments is likely to contribute positively to the people's daily lives, encouraging more frequent exchanges and engagements.
