The use of official vehicles for personal purposes by government officials is a quite common occurrence in Mongolia.
"It's well known that vehicles should be under strict control, used solely for official purposes, and only during working hours," writes Central Asia.
Due to the increasing cases, the Mongolian authorities have decided to change the color of license plates on government and state institution vehicles and issue QR codes.
This measure was taken due to the growing instances "when officials often use official vehicles to transport their children to schools and daycare centers, their wives drive them for shopping, trips outside the city, and they are spotted at bars and restaurants. Therefore, the decision was made to change the background color of license plates on official vehicles to bright blue. This way, citizens will be able to monitor them," stated Mongolia's Minister of Road and Transport Development, Byambatsogt Sandag.
