On August 22 Daryo reported that Pakistani special forces were engaged in a rescue operation to aid eight individuals, including six children, who found themselves stranded in a malfunctioning cable car. At the moment of reporting, only 2 children were successfully rescued, but operations involving the assistance of a helicopter were ceased after the sun set down.
Today, on August 23, Al Jazeera updated on the situation and informed that the remaining 6 people were rescued as well. The cable car made it to safety after spending almost 15 hours at about 356m above the ground.
The incident was commented on by Pakistan's president, pointing out that this problem is not uncommon and the government will launch check-ups on all cable cars around the country.
I would also urge that administration must conduct a comprehensive survey of all such local chairlifts to ensure safety of our people in future.
