The Iranian press, HRANA, reported the death of a 10-year-old Afghan girl in the city of Ray, allegedly beaten to death by her father.
The incident occurred on Sunday, August 20, in the Hasanabad district of the city.
The regional police commander, Seyed Reza Emadalldini, stated that the child possibly died from severe beatings with an electric cable. The father of the deceased girl, arrested by the police on murder charges, admitted his guilt.
In his statement, the accused said,
"I got acquainted with a young woman in Iran and remarried. On the day of the incident, we went out for leisure. My daughter stayed home alone. When we returned from our outing a few hours later, upon our return, the house was in a mess, and I discovered that my daughter had caused it while we were away. I was so angry that I struck her multiple times with an electric cable. After this incident, my child fell asleep and didn't wake up in the morning."
Seyed Reza Emadalldini added that the police have presented the detained individual to judicial authorities for further investigation.
While criminal incidents are common among Afghan citizens residing in Iran, the act of a father killing his minor child is not a widely reported phenomenon in the country.
