On August 5, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, congratulated the country's railway transport sector employees.
My dear friends,
From the bottom of my heart, I want to congratulate all the glorious workers of the railway transport industry on their special day. This includes workers, employees, builders, engineers, drivers, conductors, and veterans of the sphere.
We are grateful for your invaluable role and significant contribution to the construction of the rapidly developing State and society in New Uzbekistan.
Today, we are celebrating a wonderful holiday that marks the 32nd anniversary of our beloved Motherland's independence. It's a time to reflect on the progress that has been made in the development of Uzbekistan's railway sector.
In this time frame, over 2,400 kilometers of new railways were constructed and put into use. Additionally, more than 3,000 kilometers of railways were electrified and over 1,100 kilometers of railways were restored.
The growth of railway networks has undoubtedly created new opportunities for balanced development across all regions and integrated development of the country's mineral resources. This has been supported by the fact that since the establishment of the Joint-Stock Company Uzbek Railways (Oʻzbekiston temir yoʻllari), transportation volumes for both passengers and cargo have more than doubled. A total of 1.6bn tons of cargo and 380mn passengers were transported to various destinations.
Thanks to the hard work of thousands of individuals like yourself, who are selfless and devoted to their country, a modern and integrated railway system has been established. This system is fully capable of meeting the needs of the population and various sectors of the economy. It provides a reliable and efficient connection between all regions and territories within the republic.
As a country with advanced transportation systems and ample transit capabilities, we have established a vital role in the global railway network that connects the East and West, North and South. It is a source of great pride for us.
The "Afrosiab" electric trains, which operate from the capital to the historic cities of Samarkand, Bukhara, and Karshi, have become a renowned symbol of national railway transportation. It is my hope that we can introduce high-speed passenger trains on the Bukhara-Khiva route next year. This, along with the establishment of better amenities for the public, will aid in advancing the tourism industry to new heights.
Uzbekistan's railway workers play a crucial role in carrying out significant strategic projects such as constructing airports, metro lines, bridges, overpasses, and developing deposits.
Our nation is now the first in Central Asia to possess a robust heavy engineering and foundry industry within the railway sector. The Republic has constructed significant industrial enterprises that are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies to produce wagons, modernize, repair, and upgrade locomotives, freight, and passenger cars.
The crucial work involved in managing and implementing technology in the field is carried out by skilled local professionals, particularly the determined and brave young people. I would like to take this moment to express my sincere gratitude, on behalf of myself and our entire community, to these dedicated and conscientious individuals who are true experts in their field.
Dear participants of the celebration!
We acknowledge that there is much work to be done in modernizing our country's railway system, implementing significant projects that involve foreign investment, and training personnel who are modern, innovative, and patriotic. Our goal is to move forward with a new way of thinking and a strong commitment to our Motherland.
I am confident that the railway sector workers, who possess extensive experience and knowledge gained over time, will utilize their creativity and hard work to successfully address all challenges. The State will ensure that all necessary provisions are made to support the attainment of this objective.
Once again, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to you on your professional holiday. I wish you all the success in your future endeavors and hope that you and your loved ones find peace, happiness, and well-being',
