During a high-level visit to China in May 2023, Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy signed a "Memorandum of Understanding" with "PowerChina International Group Limited" to construct a 400 MW solar photoelectric plant in the Andijan region.
Reportedly, on July 31, the Ministry of Energy, the Andijan regional government, and "PowerChina International Group Limited" signed an agreement outlining the project's main conditions.
As per the document, the construction would commence in September of this year, with the first 100 MW capacity of the solar photoelectric plant scheduled to be commissioned by April 1, 2024.
By November 30, 2024, the total capacity of 400 MW will be achieved.
Once operational, the solar photoelectric plant will produce 700mn kWh of electricity annually, save 212mn cubic meters of natural gas, and prevent 294,000 tons of harmful greenhouse gases.
The project will be built on land areas not used for agricultural purposes.
"PowerChina International Group Limited" was established by "Power Construction Corporation of China" in 2016 for international projects and has implemented projects with a total capacity of 200 GW. The company had a working capital of $50.5bn in 2019, $58.2bn in 2020, and $69.5bn in 2021.
