Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's recent visit to Saudi Arabia marked an important milestone in his presidency. During his trip, which took place on July 18-19, he visited the holy city of Mecca and participated in significant religious ceremonies, the presidential press office reported on July 19.
On July 19, the first day of the month of Muharram of the new year 1445 AH, President Mirziyoyev performed the rites of death by donning a special robe of ihram. He was granted the great honour of entering the sacred Kaaba and offering prayers within its walls.
As a devout Muslim, President Mirziyoyev adhered to the rituals of Islam, making tawaf seven times, which involves circumambulating around the Kaaba. Additionally, he performed seven walks between the hills of Safa and Marva, part of the religious customs associated with the holy site. During the visit, a dua (supplication) was made, praying for the prosperity of Uzbekistan, peace and prosperity for its people, and a bright future for all citizens, especially the younger generation.
The timing of President Mirziyoyev's visit was particularly significant, as it coincided with the ceremony of changing the kiswa, the traditional cover of the Kaaba. This ceremonial change holds special religious and cultural importance in Mecca, and it added further significance to the President's visit.
President Mirziyoyev's participation in the first Summit "Central Asia Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf" in Jeddah emphasises Uzbekistan's dedication to fostering diplomatic ties and cooperation with the Gulf countries and the broader Central Asian region.
