Kazakhstan's Ministry of Emergency Situations has reported an increase in the number of fires in certain regions of the country since the beginning of 2023.
Most of the fires in Kazakhstan happened in the Abay region. The Western Kazakhstan, Kostanay, Zhambyl, Almaty, Ulytau, and Zhetysu regions also reported high numbers of fires.
On the contrary, in some regions, there has been a decrease in fire incidence, counting Karaganda, North Kazakhstan, Mangistau, Pavlodar, East Kazakhstan, Akmola, and Almaty City.
Earlier, Daryo reported that the restoration of forests in the Abai region is projected to require at least 70 years of rehabilitation efforts.
