The Uzbek delegation, composed of Encompass company executives and diplomats from the Uzbek Embassy in Stockholm, participated in the "Global Fashion Summit," held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on June 27-28, Dunyo reports.
According to the Uzbek Embassy, the Global Fashion Summit is the leading international conference on sustainable development in the fashion industry. Since its inception in 2009, the summit has brought together industry leaders, innovators, and experts to discuss environmental, social, and ethical issues impacting fashion, people, and the planet, as well as legislative acts currently under discussion in the EU and worldwide.
The event was attended by Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans, and Fisheries Virginijus Sinkevičius, top executives from major foreign companies (H&M, LVMH Group, Maersk, Inditex, Loewe, PUMA, among others), representatives from the textile industry, experts from various countries, international organizations, financial institutions, international and local media, and others.
Within the forum, a separate event focused on Uzbekistan's textile potential, featuring speeches by Alan McClay, the Executive Director of "Better Cotton," Olivia Shasso, a representative of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and an embassy representative.
The participants were informed about significant achievements in Uzbekistan's textile industry, including localization of production, implementation of new capacities and modern technologies, creation of new jobs, and efforts to prevent forced and child labor in cotton harvesting.
Moreover, the main directions of ongoing work for the further development of the textile sector were presented, including joint projects with UNECE for the implementation of a Blockchain system to trace the entire production cycle. Active cooperation with the International Labor Organization (ILO), "Better Cotton," the International Finance Corporation, GIZ, and other organizations was also highlighted.
