In a recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed declaring Almaty as the cultural and tourist capital of the organization, media reports.
The leader emphasized the importance of tourism as a means of bringing countries and peoples closer together, particularly since the SCO covers 45% of the world's population and presents a vast untapped tourist market.
Kazakhstan has already taken steps in this direction, such as introducing a visa-free regime for citizens of India, Iran, and China.
In addition, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also proposed the "Spiritual Sanctities of the SCO" project, which aims to preserve and promote the common spiritual heritage of the member states. One such example is the mausoleum of Khawaja Ahmed Yasawi in Turkestan, which will be presented at the SCO Conference "The Golden Horde and its heritage".
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev believes that these efforts will strengthen the humanitarian ties between the SCO member states.
