Unidentified individual sets multiple copies of the Koran on fire inside a mosque in Russia's Kabardino-Balkaria Republic, as reported by BAZA.
During the night of July 1, an occurrence unfolded in the village of Chegem Dutsi, located in the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, Russia. An individual entered a nearby mosque and proceeded to pour gasoline on copies of the Quran before igniting them. Yura Borsov, the head of Chegemsky district, clarified that the incident was not motivated by religious factors.
"Currently, the person who committed the arson attack has been arrested and is explaining his act with 'calls from his inner voice,'" the official said, adding that the fire in the mosque was extinguished quickly.
Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasised on June 28 that in contrast to certain other nations, Russia considers the act of showing disrespect towards the Koran as a criminal offence in Russia, informed Daryo.
