Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov met with the President of the World Meteorological Organization, Director General of the UAE National Meteorological Center Abdullah Al Mandus, during his visit to the UAE, the Foreign Minister announced on June 20.
"We got informed about advanced technologies and new methodologies developed in the UAE, including cloud seeding, and discussed the prospects for implementing their experience in Uzbekistan, especially in the Aral Sea region," he said.
Bakhtiyor Saidov also met with Mariam Almheiri, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment. "We paid special attention to combining our efforts in the areas of water scarcity, water desalination, biodiversity protection, afforestation, as well as the introduction of the UAE's best practices in these areas in Uzbekistan," the Uzbek Foreign Minister stated.
Cloud seeding is the technique of manipulating the weather to enhance rainfall in arid areas. Using this strategy, the UAE started the Precipitation Enhancement Research Program (UAEREP) in 1990.
Clouds are seeded from airplanes with natural salts such as potassium chloride and sodium chloride, which attract water particles, causing them to mix and become heavier, resulting in precipitation.
