The governments of Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed to restore diplomatic relations, and starting from Monday, June 19, their embassies and consulates will resume operations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar reports.
The Ministry states that both countries have decided to re-establish diplomatic ties in order to strengthen their mutual relations. This includes the reopening of Qatar's embassy in Abu Dhabi and consulate in Dubai, as well as the UAE's embassy in Doha. The Ministry emphasized that this step reflects the willingness of the leaders of both nations to enhance cooperation and fulfill the aspirations of their respective peoples.
In June 2017, the UAE, along with Bahrain, Egypt, Libya, and Yemen, cut off diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing it of destabilizing the region, supporting extremist ideologies, and aiding regional militant groups. However, Qatar has consistently denied these allegations, considering them to be unfounded.
In a separate development, the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and the UAE have initiated discussions on the potential readmission of Syria to the League of Arab States. During the meeting, the participants urged Syria to rejoin the "Arab fold."
