On June 13, Saida Mirziyoyeva, daughter of the president of Uzbekistan, highlighted the pressing issue of school infrastructure in remote areas during her visit to School No. 9 in the Angorsky district, Termez. She expressed her concern over the deplorable conditions, lack of basic amenities, and insufficient space for students at the school.
"Unfortunately, some of our schools in remote areas are in a very deplorable state. I was convinced of this once again after visiting school No. 9 in the Angorsky district. It pained me to see that there were no even the most basic conditions, communications, school supplies, there were not enough places for students," said Saida Mirziyoyeva.
Acknowledging the growing need for schools due to an increase in the birth rate, she highlighted the issue of overcrowded classrooms, with some classes accommodating up to 40 students. Saida Mirziyoyeva stressed the importance of creating adequate infrastructure to ensure a quality learning environment for students.
"The need for schools is constantly growing. Every year the birth rate increases, and therefore in some schools in one class there are up to 40 students. There are many more student places to be created. This is a complex process. However, these problems must be solved, otherwise, without creating conditions for students, it is useless to talk about the quality of education," she added.
Recognizing the significance of education in the country's development, Saida Mirziyoyeva highlighted the efforts taken by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to prioritize the education sector. Measures have been implemented to alleviate the burden on teachers, such as freeing them from extraneous duties and establishing penalties, including potential criminal liability, for involving them in non-teaching tasks.
Moreover, a modern education system has been introduced for primary classes, including the recruitment of foreign language specialists to teach English and providing schools with modern equipment. These initiatives represent only a fraction of the ongoing work to enhance the education system in Uzbekistan.
"The school will soon be renovated. But this work must be carried out systematically, every day, and not because someone has arrived. And continue until even the most remote rural school has at least the necessary conditions. Only in this way can we achieve our goal of quality education," emphasized Saida Mirziyoyeva.
Her visit to Sukhandarya included attending a certificate awarding ceremony, on June 12, for girls who studied at the IT camp of the 13th and 26th general education schools in the city of Termez, Surkhandarya region.
On December 20, 2022, Shavkat Mirziyoyev suggested that 2023 be named "Year of attention to people and quality education" in Uzbekistan.
