Dmitry Peskov, the Russian President's press secretary claims that Russia agrees with Western countries on not allowing the war in Ukraine to freeze, TASS reports. He stated that Russia is in "solidarity" with the West's position.
Peskov clarified that Russia is considering the possibility of concluding its special military operation to secure its interests and achieve its goals through other available means. When asked about Moscow's preferred plan for a peaceful resolution and whether there is a separate option, Peskov emphasized that currently, no conditions exist for a peaceful resolution.
Politico previously reported that US officials are considering the potential scenario of the Russian-Ukrainian war becoming a frozen conflict for an extended period. However, both Moscow and Kyiv are unwilling to admit defeat, making it the most realistic long-term scenario.
The West, including figures like US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, has repeatedly opposed the idea of freezing the war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also expressed opposition to freezing the conflict, with an adviser warning that it would turn Ukraine into a "new North Korea."
