Since the beginning of 2023, some 19 convicted Kyrgyzstanis have been extradited from the Russian Federation, head of the consular department Almaz Bukalaev informs.
He reported that 38 more prisoners will be transferred to the Kyrgyz Republic in the near future.
More Kyrgyz citizens are said to be serving sentences in penitentiary institutions in Russia than according to official statistics.
According to the mother of one of those arrested, Gulmira Shakenova: “The parents of these migrants in the Russian Federation must go to work in the Russian Federation on their own to see their children. Many of the convicts were caught with drugs.”
“Some detainees are afraid to tell their loved ones that they are in Russian prisons. In order to be close to their child, parents are also forced to follow them to Russia and deliver them supplies to correctional institutions,” she added.
Parents of prisoners suggest conducting migration lessons in schools in the Russian Federation, they also complain about the poor performance of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry in the Russian Federation.
